Shortly ago I presented you the first 'OSPREY ADVENTURES' book for which I've done several illustrations, belonging to the collection of 'Myths and Legends'.
You could see some first pages of Sinbad's book, and the cover in that old post. Now, I'm going to show some illustrations on this blog, with OSPREY Publishing editor's permission. Altogether I'll show you three illustrations of the seven I've done for this book.
First, the cover illustration of 'Sinbad The Sailor'. This plate refers to Sinbad's sixth voyage, where he finishes his adventure getting a great loot just as in his previous voyages and in spite of the difficulties he endures. The book is on sale on OSPREY's website.
Hace no mucho os presenté el primer libro de OSPREY Adventures para el que he hecho varias ilustraciones, perteneciente a la colección de "Myths and Legends".
Pudisteis echarle un vistazo a las primeras páginas del libro, y a la portada. Pues en esta ocasión, y con permiso del editor de la colección para OSPREY Publishing, os voy a mostrar algunas ilustraciones. Tres en total de las varias que hay en el libro. Primero empezaré por la de la portada, y en sucesivas entradas os mostraré las siguientes.
La ilustración de portada de "Sinbad The Sailor" hace referencia a su sexto viaje. Que como en anteriores viajes, se las ingenia para salir con un buen botín de la aventura u odisea vivida.

To do this illustration I worked a first sketch in which there were some changes or modifications after, for example the kind of oars, Sinbad's pose or movement, the size of the raft. Sinbad needed having a bigger raft to overcome the rapids and strength River, and the kind of oars he used had to be different from I'd done, more correct. With a small raft he wouldn't have been able to finish the adventure successfuly.
El planteamiento de la ilustración en un boceto inicial sufrió alguna modificación en una segunda versión para ajustarse más a la idea del autor sobre la escena a representar.
El tipo de remos varió, y por lo tanto la manera de utilizarlos por parte del protagonista, al igual que su movimiento en alguna medida. Yo en un principio pensé que los remos eran del tipo que podéis ver representado en la siguiente imagen, que es el primer boceto que hice. Pero estaba equivocada y por eso se modificaron, además del tamaño de la balsa en proporción a Simbad para darle más fortaleza y estabilidad. Simbad debe sortear una serie de rápidos y cascadas para poder salir airoso de la situación en la que acaba embarrándose en el sexto viaje, y con una balsa más pequeña seguramente tendría que hacer muchos malabarismos y aún así no tendría asegurado el éxito de la aventura.

Once I finished the first sketch, and started to work on all details and textures of illustration. I had to make the current more powerful and faster. Sinbad had to be in danger.
The most of Sinbad's loot come from the bed of the stream, there are a lot of rubies, sapphires, pearls and other precious stones on the river bed. This detail had to be clearly visible so I had to add lights and gleams to the precious stones in the bed. Sometimes it's difficult to get movement in the water of a river and transparency to see the gemstones on the river bed at the same time.
Otro elemento de la ilustración que también sufrió una modificación, pero esta vez en proceso entre el segundo boceto y la ilustración definitiva, es la sensación de velocidad y movimiento del agua. Tenía que transformar de un agua tranquila y sosegada a un agua peligrosa que empujaba la balsa con rapidez hacia las paredes de la boca de la cueva. Esto, en parte, tapaba o no permitía leer con más claridad las gemas y piedras preciosas que se encuentran en el lecho del río, por eso en la ilustración definitiva intenté potenciar el efecto de la gemas sumergidas con destellos reflejados por las mismas (podéis hacer la comparación con la primera imagen que os he puesto).

The next week I'll show another illustration I done for Sinbad's book, on the blog. That illustration is of double-page, one of the most I like it and most laborious I've done to for this book. But you'll be able to see this artwork on the next week post.
La próxima semana os muestro otra más de las ilustraciones que he hecho para este libro, y que puedo enseñar. La ilustración que os mostraré es a doble página, y es una de las que más disfruté y más trabajo me costó hacerla, también de las que más me gustaron. pero eso la próxima semana. ^_^
